Product Overview:
The IBM 3581L28 ultrium Tape 2U Autoloader 3581 is a high-performance, reliable,
autoloader tape subsystem. Designed for unattended operation, the 3581 can be
attached to iSeries, AS/400, pSeries, RS/6000, RS/6000 SP, xSeries, Netfinity,
Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows 2003, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, Linux, Netfinity,
and other open systems using SCSI attachment. The libraries use the IBM Ultrium
2 Tape Drives for faster data transfer and reliability in automated library
service. Each aspect of the Ultrium Tape 2U Autoloader 3581 has been optimized
for repeated, reliable, unattended tape handling. IBM Ultrium tape cartridges
have been refined using the many years of IBM tape experience to provide a tape
cartridge that provides extremely fast data transfer, but stands up to the rigors
of automated handling.
IBM 3581L28 tape capacity is 200 GB per cartridge in native format, and using
(2:1) compression is 400 GB. The Ultrium 2 Tape Drives have sustained data rates
of 70 MB/sec. at 2:1 compression. The Ultrium Tape 2U Autoloader 3581 capacity
is eight tape cartridges, providing a media capacity of up to 1.6 TB (3.2 TB
with 2:1 compression) data storage per unit.
The IBM 3581L28 3581 accommodates eight cartridges. Data rates depend on data
structure, operating system, system hardware, and the ability of the application
to maintain this throughput.
The IBM 3581L28 Ultrium Tape 2U Autoloader 3581 attaches to a server using
a SCSI adapter. The library control unit contains the electronics and logic
for autochanger operations. Each IBM Ultrium tape drive contains the electronics
and logic for reading and writing data, control of the tape drive, management
of the data buffer, and error recovery procedures. The 3581 has its own power
and cooling components. RICOM also sells refurbished IBM 3581L28.
