This Linear Tape Open (LTO) tape drive provides an attractively priced, entry offering into LTO technology. It provides a new benchmark for midrange to high-end IBM eServer xSeries servers requiring high-capacity, high-performance and high reliability tape solutions in a 5.25-inch, half-high form factor. Using its onboard hardware data compression feature, and assuming a 2:1 compression ratio, this drive can store up to 200 GB per cartridge, at a backup rate of up to 54GB per hour. It delivers solid performance through attachment to a supported 80 MBps Ultra2 low-voltage differential (LVD) SCSI adapter or onboard controller. Tape drives that use data compression technology have storage capacity that will vary depending upon whether the drive is operating in native mode (without compression) or compressed mode. Although the compression technology used in IBM tape drives can typically double the amount of data stored on the media, the actual degree of compression achieved is highly sensitive to the characteristics of the data being compressed.
