The HP DL785 G6 AM438A is an 8 socket x86 server, supporting up to eight 6 core AMD Opteron processors, 11 PCI-e I/O slots or an I/O backplane with 7 PCI-e and 2 HTx I/O slots. With this highly expandable feature set, the DL785 G6 is an ideal choice for the growing enterprise class database, consolidation and virtualization environments seeking to improve server utilization and reduce server and virtualization sprawl, while continuing to leverage all the familiar and easy to use ProLiant management tools and options. The AM438A G6 server adds 6 core AMD Opteron processors, updates the power supply units and provides support for new Smart array options and SAS expander card option as well . It also supports enhanced power management functionality to reduce energy cost and reclaim trapped capacity.  DIMMS must be installed in pairs, in addition:  -DIMMs installed in the same memory bank must have the same part number -DIMMs installed in different banks can be different sizes -DIMMs must be installed in decreasing capacity with the largest DIMMs installed in the banks furthest away from the processor -A minimum of two DIMMs (1 kit) must be installed per processor.  Dual Dynamic Power Management is a feature that yields power savings and/or increased performance by providing independent voltage planes for cores and memory controllers. The feature, which is supported in the AM438A G6 as well, uses a "split" power plane in the motherboard in order to deliver different voltages to different parts of the processor.  Provides essential infrastructure management with HP Insight Control, which delivers rapid server deployment, proactive server health monitoring, comprehensive power management tools, and remote administration tools; select ProLiant AM438A G6 models ship standard with HP Insight Control.  Dual-port embedded NC371i multifunction Gigabit server adapters with TOE and iSCSI support.  Two slots are provisioned for up to 300 W per I/O slot for outstanding high-performance I/O cards. This works well for visualization and graphics-intensive workloads that are moving from  workstation-based solutions to servers with high-performance graphics cards like NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 1.5 GB graphics card.  The server storage offers Internal storage supports eight SFF SAS drives, with the option to add eight additional SFF SAS drives, for a total of 16 SAS drives supporting up to 8 TB internal storage.  The server provides essential infrastructure management with HP Insight Control, which delivers rapid server deployment, proactive server health monitoring, comprehensive power management tools, and remote administration tools; select ProLiant DL785 G6 models ship standard with HP Insight Control.
