Memory Specifications for the Cisco PIX 515 515E upgrades

The minimum memory requirements for your platform depends on the type of licensing you have purchased, which enables different levels of service, and defines the number of interfaces and memory the system can support. Restricted licenses require less memory than Unrestricted licenses.

Unrestricted—An Unrestricted (UR) license allows installation and use of the maximum number of interfaces and RAM supported by the platform. The Unrestricted license supports a redundant `hot standby' system for failover operation to minimize network downtime.

Restricted—A Restricted (R) license limits the number of interfaces supported and the amount of RAM available within the system. A Restricted licensed firewall does not support a redundant system for failover configurations.

If you are a PIX 515 or PIX 515E user with a PIX Version 6.3, you will need to upgrade your memory before performing an upgrade to PIX Version 7.0. PIX Version 7.0 requires at least 64 MB of RAM for unrestricted (UR) and failover (FO) licenses and at least 128 MB of RAM.
