Cisco 10GBASE X2-10GB-LX4 transceiver modules plug into the front panel of the supervisor engine or route switch processor provide the uplink ports for the router. Several types of transceiver modules are available: small form-factor pluggable (SFP) modulesCisco 10GBASE X2-10GB-LX4 modules, XENPAK modules, and Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC) modules. The 10-Gigabit Ethernet X2-10GB-LX4 transceiver module is a hot-swappable I/O device that plugs into 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports. The Cisco 10GBASE X2-10GB-LX4 transceiver connects the electrical circuitry of the system with the optical or copper network. Lower latency: Latency is a function of wire speed. Aggregated Gigabit Ethernet links have a wire speed of 1 Gbps versus 10 Gigabit Ethernet links with a wire speed of 10 Gbps. A single 10 Gigabit Ethernet link cansupport multigigabit streams and does not have link-aggregation distribution algorithm issues. A 10 Gigabit Ethernet link uses fewer fiber strands compared with Gigabit Ethernet aggregation, which uses one fiber strand per Gigabit Ethernet link. This 10 Gigabit Ethernet advantage reduces cabling complexity in data centers and more efficiently uses existing fiber cabling in campus environments.
